DrillGeo – exploration drilling management system
DrillGeo provides continuous automatic collection of data on drilling modes, drilling tool position in the borehole, and determination of borehole coordinates during the drilling process for subsequent use of these data in geoinformation systems (GIS AGR).
The DrillGeo system is a modern efficient solution from Russian developers designed to automate management of drilling operations. It includes not only standard KPI tracking capabilities (statistics on downtime and operational statuses, operational time, drilled distance, etc.), but also monitoring of the main drilling parameters, as well as a reporting system and a dispatch system.

DrillGeoSim is a training and examination system for drill operators
DrillGeoSim is a software-hardware solution that offers a cost-efficient and convenient alternative to field training. The operator gets an opportunity to get accustomed to the whole range of scenarios that could occur in the process of drilling, to learn how to recognize such situations and how to deal with them efficiently. All that in a short training period, without any risk to the equipment, avoiding possible economic losses arising from real-world field training.
DrillGeoSim modifications
The drill simulator can be manufactured in two versions. There is a hardware version which utilizes a replica of the control panel of the required drill model, with three options for displaying a 3D animated model of the drilling rig: via wide-screen monitor, projector or augmented reality glasses, depending on the modification. There's also a software version: a virtual training simulator in the form of a web-application on PC that has the same functional capabilities.
The hardware-software drill training simulator using algorithms developed by the DrillGeoRobotics company allows you to train, retrain, and test the level of proficiency of drill operators and students of specialized educational institutions. The administrative module is responsible for the preparation of assignment programs, supervising of the progress of training and examinations of students, assessing of the correctness of actions and decisions, and keeping personal records – a log of progress for each student.
Based on the parameters of the geotechnical order and initial depth at the start of the exercise, the simulation program will change the drilling and equipment parameters (such as rate of penetration, hydrostatic pressure of the drilling fluid, torque and pressure gauge) shown on the control panel display. When pre-programmed complications arise, the behavior of the simulation program will change. During the exercise, the operator has to properly and promptly react to changes by using the throttles and levers on the control panel.
When performing exercises on a hardware-assisted simulator, the student acquires necessary psychomotor skills to control the drill and learns various drilling scenarios in a short period of time.
The web-application based training simulator provides the same amount of knowledge within the same time limits excluding tactile senses engagement. However, due to the possibility of remote access, ease of installation and access to computers over the Internet, it allows distance learning and examinations. In addition, the web version is capable of simulating the models of drill units of different types and from different manufacturers.
Design of the DrillGeoSim system
A replica of the control panel of a drilling rig, which fully corresponds to a prototype, is equipped with necessary sensors, screens and other electronic equipment. An animated 3D model of the drilling rig is displayed on the additional wide-screen monitor. When levers and throttles on the control panel are engaged, the virtual drilling rig model starts to move: the mast is raised, the rotary head, the cargo winch and core lifter cables move, the drill string rotates, and drilling fluid starts to leak from the borehole. You can open optional windows where you can see how a diamond drill bit penetrates rock with the drilling sludge moving along the walls of the borehole, or look at the mouth of the borehole from the operator's POV.
